PEMF Explained
What is PEMF Therapy and how does it help you horse?
Here is a simplified explanation...
-
When areas of a horse's body get compromised by athletic performance, aging, overuse, illness or injury... their cells actually lose their charge. The cells become rigid, flat and less permeable, keeping toxins and waste stuck inside. Injured cells actually clump together, which create visible ridges or knots.

-
PEMF Therapy (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) Therapy introduces a gentle pulsing magnetic field which passes through the body. As it does this, it switches on and off. When the magnetic field switches on, it actually stretches any injured or compromised cells, when it switches off, the cells relax.
-
This "stretch and relax" motion increases the permeability and softens the cell wall, allowing oxygen and nutrition to enter and waste and toxins (inflammation) to flow out.
-
The cell charge goes back up, blood gets super oxygenated, circulation is increased and as the cells begin to heal your horse starts to feel GREAT!
-
Energy is improved and recovery time is reduced as the super oxygenated blood passes through their body for up to 72 hours after treatment.
-
Pain is relieved, not by masking the problem with drugs, but by enhancing a bodies ability to actually heal itself!
-
Performance, suppleness and range of motion are improved by freeing up the cells and reducing the stored inflammation.
-
Most riders comment on how loose and free the horses shoulders feel and they notice a BIG difference... even after just one session!

FAQ’s applicable to both Equine and Human PEMF

What does a PEMF treatment feel like?
A mild electric-like pulsation is felt over the area being treated and the intensity is always adjusted for individual comfort. It is never painful and can actually feel good and promote short-term relaxation.

How many sessions would I need?
This will be determined through your initial assessment. Different problems require different amounts of treatment. We have affordable packages available to suit your needs.

How far apart should I space my PEMF sessions?
Since the effects of PEMF are cumulative, it is recommend, when you first start PEMF, that you come at least twice a week, but you can come every day if that works for you. After your initial series of appointments, we offer packages and maintenance plans with weekly or monthly sessions – depending on your case.

When will the results of the PEMF session be seen or felt?
Results are usually immediate. Some riders have noticed a difference within the first couple of steps their horse takes after their first PEMF session. As the blood is oxygenated and circulation is increased, improvement will continue for up to 72 hours after a whole body PEMF session.

Why do a session on the whole horse when the problem is in one area?
PEMF creates a systemic response like “Fine-tuning” or “Turbo-Charging” the WHOLE body, because of this, many issues, not just the targeted ones, also experience improvement. By increasing the blood oxygen in the whole body, the sensitive area continues to be helped as super oxygenated blood from the rest of the body continues to flow through the area, for up to 72 hours.

Can PEMF sessions be done right at the show or event?
From a performance standpoint it is just fine to use PEMF on a horse on show/race day. We always recommend checking with the organising committee of your show or organization to ensure that PEMF is allowed within the stabling of that organization as well.
